All You Need For A Home Gym

A home gym doesn't have to include huge, bulky equipment.

These pieces of exercise equipment are affordable and work right in the comfort of your own home!

1. Resistance Bands (Loops)

These are a MUST. They are so easy to use and they add resistance to tons of exercises. They are super cheap on Amazon, and you can use them pretty much every day! These will be great to tone your core, glutes, and much more!

2. Leg Weights

These are my second Must Have piece of equipment in a home gym. They add automatic resistance to many exercises - but be care to use these wisely! These come in a variety of weights (2lbs, 5lbs, etc). Heavier weights pulling down on your leg is not always the best idea, so be sure to start with lower weights and progress up! Use for glute and core exercises.

3. Dumbbells up to 20lbs

This is a larger expense, but doesn't always have to be. Weights can be found on craigslist, and you can also find cheaper weights on Amazon. Usually, I stick to 5lbs, 10lbs, 15lbs, and 20lbs for my home gym, but you can pick and choose your weights as you please! There is also an option to buy interchangeable dumbbells - you get a grip (mini bar), different weight plats, and safety screws. See a few options below:

4. Resistance Bands (With Arm/Ankle Straps)

These are great for working with low intensity resistance. You can use these for upper body, or lower body, which makes them a great home gym piece of equipment. Great for upper body rows and shoulder workouts!

5. Stability Ball

This is a must! Stability balls are great for home gyms and they provide all sorts of variations for exercises. Use these for core exercises, or to add stability training to your current exercise routine!

6. BOSU

This thing is AMAZING. It is not a necessity for a home gym, but it will definitely elevate your workouts. And when you can get it on sale, it's a steal. You can do pretty much everything on this thing: squats, single leg exercises, split squats, lunges, core, back.... you name it! It can be used by beginners to highly advanced, which makes it an awesome home gym addition.

7. Medicine Ball

This is not a necessity, but a good addition! Medicine balls are great for core exercises, and they help provide resistance during functional, every-day exercises. Usually 10-15lbs is enough resistance, but again, you can progress up as needed!

Important Fitness Tips

#1

Think about the muscle you're using throughout the entire exercise. For example, if you're doing a glute workout, simply thinking about your glutes allows that mind/body connection to work better.

#2

Correct form if you don't feel an exercise working properly. No reason to waste time doing an exercise wrong!

#3

Be conscious of breathing: exhale as you lift resistance (includes bodyweight), inhale as you lower resistance.
